Capítulo uno: un vistazo al interior

El colchón rechinó bajo ellos. El sudor brillaba en la piel de Daniella mientras cabalgaba a Alexander, llevándolos cada vez más cerca del éxtasis. Alexander le agarró las caderas con fuerza mientras la follaba, dejando marcas en su piel y arremetiendo contra el calor lubricado de su cuerpo. Ella sabía que estaba cerca.

Podía sentir su mirada. Recorría su cuerpo como una serpiente deslizante lista para atacar. 

Daniella entrecerró los ojos. “No, no puede.” Se apartó el cabello oscuro y rizado del cuello de su bata y ató el cinturón con fuerza alrededor de su cintura, como punto final. “Lamento si estás confundido, pero nada de nuestro trato ha cambiado. Yo vine, tú viniste, y ahora es hora de irse. Tengo cosas que hacer, y estoy segura de que tú también tienes, en otro sitio.” 

Los pies de Alexander tocaron el suelo y ella dejó escapar un suspiro de alivio. Se dio la vuelta para darle privacidad mientras se vestía, pero su cuerpo se negaba a relajarse mientras la sensación en sus entrañas se volvía más pesada.

Se está yendo. Solo dale unos minutos.

Daniella pulsó el botón para abrir las largas cortinas rosas y doradas que cubrían sus ventanales de suelo a techo. Su mirada se posó en la impresionante vista desde su piso del ático, sin obstáculos de los rascacielos de Nueva York que la rodeaban. Los suaves rayos del sol estaban bajos en el horizonte, pero aún eran magníficos por la forma en que sus tintes rosados contrastaban con los azules de la madrugada. 

La escena casi la calmó, pero entonces un ruido rompió la serenidad. Daniella se dio la vuelta y encontró a Alexander detrás de ella, todavía desnudo y demasiado cerca. Ella dio un paso atrás, y él dio otro hacia adelante, acorralándola contra el cristal. 

Él sonrió con suficiencia mientras le agarraba la barbilla, con los labios cerca de los de ella. “Vamos, Daniella, ambos sabemos que no quisiste decir que no.”

Ella entrecerró los ojos y rápidamente le apartó la mano de un manotazo. Pero antes de que pudiera hablar, él le tapó la boca y se presionó contra ella. “¿O simplemente te gusta que sea rudo, mascota?”

Su respuesta de lucha o huida se activó a máxima potencia, inundándola de adrenalina. Daniella abrió la boca y le mordió la mano, fuerte. Alexander se rió entre dientes ante el dolor como si no fuera nada, pero se apartó lo justo para darle una oportunidad. Daniella aprovechó el espacio para girarse, y luego se lanzó hacia adelante, lanzándole un puñetazo en la cabeza.

Alexander saltó hacia atrás y levantó las manos, pero esa sonrisa estúpida seguía en su rostro. “Está bien, me voy. No hay necesidad de ser tan apresurado. Pero recuerda, solo estoy aquí porque aceptaste dejarme entrar. No sé por qué ahora haces la difícil cuando estaba dentro de ti hace menos de diez minutos.”

“Y creo que es hilarante que pienses que es una actuación.” Ella le lanzó una mirada feroz, apretando los puños. “Tienes razón, te dejé entrar en mi casa, ¿pero sabes qué? Todos cometemos errores que desearíamos poder deshacer. Así que, déjame ser perfectamente clara ya que no entendiste las dos primeras veces. Tienes dos opciones. O sales de mi casa por tu propia voluntad, o yo misma te sacaré a rastras.”  

Él soltó un silbido bajo y retrocedió, agarrando su ropa y sus zapatos. “Lo que digas, nena. Lo que digas.”

No se iba. La persistente y desgarradora sensación de que algo estaba mal se había enterrado profundamente en las entrañas de Daniella. Si era honesta, la sensación había estado allí durante las últimas dos semanas, pero nunca había sido tan intensa. 

Antes, era un susurro, algo a lo que podía hacer la vista gorda. No le preocupaba; ni siquiera era una mancha en su día. Pero hoy, todo se sentía empapado en esa oscuridad desagradable y opresiva. Incluso después de su taza de café, su baño caliente y su sesión de meditación, todavía se sentía sucia. 

Quizás la situación con Alexander le había molestado más de lo que se había dado cuenta. Él nunca se había comportado así antes. Pero hoy… Daniella sacudió la cabeza. No importaba. Nunca volvería a verlo ni a hablar con él, y si intentaba algo, siempre podría contar con los guardias del vestíbulo. 

Daniella bloqueó su número, y de camino a la salida tuvo una breve charla con ambos guardias de seguridad. Bajo ninguna circunstancia debía entrar en su piso, ni en el edificio, sin su autorización. Después de confirmar que estaba bien, respondieron con un sincero: “Por supuesto, señorita Ismania.”

Pero a pesar de eso, la sensación persistía, y si su intuición era correcta, se le esperaba un día de perros. Con un suspiro, Daniella agradeció a los guardias, antes de salir corriendo por la puerta y ponerse en camino al trabajo.

The setting is present day New York, New York. It is very well described and detailed. Each character’s characteristics and personality is detailed to the point of feeling like you know them for real. I love Melissa’s writing style. It is so easy to read and the words just flow.

Book 1 is an amazing start to the series. There is action, romance, spicy all wrapped up in twenty chapters. Did I mention the spice, hmmm… there is plenty of it. You might even need a few breaks in between the scenes. Book 1 does leave you in a cliffhanger but it is a doable cliff hanger. All three books are available so you obviously do not have to wait long to start the next.

I recommend to all who love supernatural and romance that are 18+.

From start to finish this book sucks you in, I wish I could help find Alexander/Zachariah, he needs a good butt kicking. I love how you know a war is going on but it's more like in the background so you can really get to know the characters. I'm not going to lie I was hoping that Dani , Greg, and Luke would have like a RH why choose but overall was very happy with this book.. on to book 2

Great Book, Melissa.

I absolutely loved this book it has everything you could want in this type of book. I couldn't put it down.
The way Melissa wrote the feelings that Greg had for Daniella made me smile and happy knowing how special that kind of love can be.
I also love how supportive everyone is of each other, knowing someone will always have your back.
After reading this book, I've decided we all need a Vampire Gregori in our lives.
I love how the book also has the magic side of things in it showing Ella being a witch is also powerful and it was great seeing Ella's powers grow.
Then there's The heat and Spice of Vampire Gregori and I could read those chapters over again.
10/10 for this great book.

Night Shade is about a vampire war and a human, Daniella, who becomes a target because she is her boss, Gregory’s mate although she isn’t aware of that fact. She has a crush on her boss though. Gregory is an old and very powerful vampire and thinks he is protecting Daniella by not telling her she is his mate. Daniella comes to realize she has powers when she is brutally attacked by Zachariah in her penthouse. Unbeknownst to Dani Zachariah is Greg’s powerful rival. She just thinks he is a one night stand. I gave this book 3.5 stars.

“God damnit, Daniella! No, you don’t. You are mine!” He snarled, pinning her hands above her head. “You are mine to protect, mine to take care of, my priority. You are my mate. If you wanted to learn how to protect yourself so badly, you should have come to me!”

“Would you let me bend you over this table and fxxk you, Ella?” Ummmm sign me up

He unbuckled his belt and ripped it free from the loops, throwing it on the ground as he prowled toward her. “I am going to worship you like the goddess you are.” All I can imagine is the one handed belt unbuckling.

While Greg does have a mouth, so does Daniella.

“Two can play that game, Gregori. After all”— her fingers fell to his lap—“ with how hard you are, it would be so easy to make a mess out of you.”
