Finding Free Books Beyond Subscription Services
Share
Free books are everywhere — you just have to know where to look. With Kindle Unlimited's monthly price on the rise, a lot of readers are unsubscribing, and I get it. Subscription costs add up fast.
But leaving KU doesn't mean you have to stop reading or spend a fortune on books. There are plenty of ways to get free books — including mine and other dark romance titles you love.
How to Find Free Books Without a Subscription
Borrow from the Library
So many people have forgotten that libraries are a great book resource, and that all of the books are free!
Authors who publish "wide" (not exclusive to Amazon) almost always have their books available on Overdrive and Libby. You can borrow ebooks without ever leaving your couch.
If your library doesn't have a book you want, just request it! Libraries love when you do this, and it helps authors too.
Browse the Free Sections
Every book retailer pushes free books, and there are tons of them available.
Browse the free sections on Amazon, Apple Books, or your favorite retailer. You might be surprised what you find — including first books in series that authors make free to introduce you to their worlds.
Become an ARC Reader
ARC readers get finished copies of books in exchange for honest reviews. You get free books, authors get reviews. It's a win-win.
Most authors mention ARC opportunities in their newsletters or on their websites. If you love an author's work, check if they have an ARC team you can join.
Watch for Deals and Giveaways
Authors run deals on their books all the time. From $0.99 sales, free promotions, and giveaways regularly. The best way to catch these? Follow your favorite authors on social media or subscribe to their newsletters.
I have two big giveaways planned for next month myself.
Why Authors Give Books Away
You might wonder why authors would give away their hard work for free.
It's simple — we want to find our people. Giving away a book removes all the risk for you to try something new. If you love it, maybe you'll pick up the next one or tell a friend.
