I ran to New York for a fresh start… and got captured by a monster instead.

One moment I'm planning my small-town wedding, the next I'm walking in on my baby sister with my fiancé. Betrayed by everyone I loved, I flee to New York City.

I'm finally finding my footing, then I'm stabbed in a dark alley, bleeding out on the dirty concrete, with no one coming to save me.

Until an ancient gargoyle snaps the neck of my attacker like a twig—and decides I'm his.

In one night I go from living paycheck to paycheck in my tiny studio apartment, to being showered in luxury by a creature who vows to fulfill my every desire.

I know I should be terrified of this vicious beast. But I'm addicted to his dark, possessive devotion, and every minute I spend with him makes me crave more.

His every word, every touch, pulls me deeper into his world. And now? I'll surrender to him completely.

Dark Monster Romance Paperback - Gargoyle Shifter Beauty and the Beast Fairytale Retelling

Looking for a dark monster romance paperback at a discount? This is a scratch & dent copy of My Vicious Beast by Melissa Cummins — a spicy paranormal romance featuring a brooding gargoyle hero, a beauty and the beast fairytale retelling, fated mates, a billionaire beast, and a curvy heroine. The book may have minor cosmetic imperfections (small dings, scratches, spine creases, or slight misalignments on graphics) but is otherwise in great condition. Perfect for readers who love gargoyle shifter romance, instalove, and fairytale retellings.

I lift her easily, her legs wrapping around my waist as I carry her into the living room. Gently, I lower her onto the sofa near the fireplace, then kneel between her thighs.

Even kneeling, I'm taller than her, and there's a predatory satisfaction that brims through my chest when she looks up at me.

Her eyes are wide, skin flushed from her cheeks down to the top of my shirt, and I've never seen anything more beautiful in all my life. The world’s best sculptors and artisans could never capture how glorious she is like this, breathless, wanton, needing me—a beast unworthy of the goddess before him.

“Sol,” she whispers, reaching for me.

I catch her hand and kiss her palm. “Let me look at you,” I murmur against her skin. “Let me worship you.”

Chapter One Look Inside

Creature

We were formed by the breath of a god.

Our creator gave us but one command—protect humanity. Tiny, weak, innocent beings, easily possessed by demons who fed on chaos and death.

We were made powerful, with skin of stone, wings that spread seven times the size of our bodies, and claws that could skewer and tear apart flesh as if it were nothing more than a leaf.

Our senses were ten times stronger than a human's, our speed faster than any predator, our purpose absolute.

We were divine justice.

Righteous brutality.

We were foolish.

With each battle, the lines began to blur. I witnessed demons show mercy, affection, love. While humans committed atrocities so cruel, even a lord of hell couldn't fathom.

The world was not as black and white as I had been taught. It was an endless spectrum of gray. And we were no longer fit to judge it.

We were lost, without thought or structure. And when our creator abandoned us, we began to fracture. Some of us became tempted by the very creatures we were meant to destroy. Some fell in love with humans, others vanished.

But me? I became something else entirely.

Doubtful.

Questioning.

Damned.

Not by any divine power or demonic curse, but by my own mind. Each life I took for my maker weighed heavier than the stone that formed my flesh.

How many souls had I condemned that could have been saved? How many demons had I slaughtered who might have found redemption?

I remember the face of a young woman, possessed by a lesser demon. Her eyes flickered between terror and malice as I approached, different from the general conceitedness of a demon. And despite that moment when her humanity shone through, I still chose to end her life. The demon's hold had been weak—perhaps she could have fought it off, perhaps she could have lived, perhaps she had a reason.

But I had been created to judge, to execute. Not to challenge my sovereignty or responsibilities.

And now, I was solely to blame.

My uncertainty ate away at me, darkening my soul. Because, though I'd lived through millennia—watched continents sink into the ocean and empires rise and fall—I didn't understand how to interpret the growing world around me, how to comprehend the line between right and wrong.

The weight of it all became too much, and with my wings drawn in against my back, I fell into a deep slumber. My body turned to stone, but I was still there. Alive. Observing. Learning.

Humans, convinced I was nothing more than a statue, took me. I traveled on ships, planes, heard their stories, the way their language grew and changed. I began to understand their feelings, motivations, and dreams.

And eventually, I ended up on top of a church in New York. A place of worship that believed I could protect them and those who entered from evil.

There, I waited with a singular hope. That one day, someone would have need of me regardless of my crimes, even if I was nothing more than a broken, discarded, vicious beast.

Usually monster/beast romance aren't really my jam but since this was Melissa Cummins & I loved her Crowned in Blood book & this sounded intriguing I figured I'd give myself something different a try & boy did she deliver on this. I love the FMC Sienna feeling like i can so relate to her when you sometimes feel like you have no one who care about you & you'd feel better if you just packed up & dissappear & start over. The Beast Sol OMG the way he loves for her, I was asking myself where can I find my own Gargoyle lol. Such a amazing read that IT DID NOT DISSAPOINT ESPECIALLY AFTER SIENNA GOT BURNED BY THOSE WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FAMILY BUT SHE GOT CLOSURE WITH THEM & THEN FOUND HER HEA. Don't be fooled by the shorter length, it still has all the feels. It is a lovely bite sized story of betrayal, healing, and learning to love again.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was such a fun book to get lost in.

I picked it up expecting a good time and ended up flying through it way faster than I planned. It had that kind of pull where I’d finish a chapter and immediately want to keep going.

I think my favorite part was how easy it was to just sink into the book and enjoy the ride. Sometimes you pick up a book and everything clicks right away, and that’s how this one felt for me.

I was completely entertained from start to finish and found myself smiling more than once while reading. The pages seemed to disappear, and before I knew it, I was already at the end.

Honestly, this was just a really enjoyable escape and exactly the kind of book I was in the mood for.

Willing to try love again

A very good short read with a lot of action. With an alpha gargoyle knowing what he wants and preparing to meet his mate. A heroine who has been hurt and used by her family willing to be put first and loved.

A must read

I received an ARC copy of this book and I devoured it in one sitting. This is a quick read that will make you angry, make you cry, make you fall in love with a possessive gargoyle, and get you a little hot under the collar. My Vicious Beast is a great follow up to My Brutal Beast. Melissa Cummins is one of my favorite authors.

A fast-paced, sizzling monster romance that completely delivers!

Melissa Cummins has done it again with My Vicious Beast! If you are a fan of dark monster romance and Beauty and the Beast retellings, this novella is a must-read.The Plot: I loved watching Sienna find her backbone, leave her incredibly toxic family behind in a small town, and head to New York for a fresh start. The Hero: Sol is everything you want in a monster romance lead—possessive, fiercely protective, and deeply devoted from the exact moment he saves her. An ancient gargoyle waking up from a deep slumber just for his fated mate? Yes, please. The Vibe: It’s short, fast-paced, and packs a massive punch of emotion and spice. The world-building feels seamless even for a novella, and the chemistry between Sienna and Sol is off the charts.Highly recommend this if you want a quick, steamy, satisfying read with a guaranteed Happily Ever After!

This book was really intense and I loved the ride! There was a lot of inner discovery and angst to get to the end but that was half the fun! If you like dark themes with a HEA, you'll love this little romp! :-)

Short but viciously good

I don’t understand how this book got me so invested in such a short read. But man was I locked in from the beginning. Sienna had me captivated with her story and personality. There were multiple moments I cheered for her out loud. Couldn’t help it. The way she took no **** with regard to James and her sister, or her parents, made me so happy. Sol is the definition of possessive and obsessive. He is so very intense, but for Sienna he is so gentle and caring. It was a delicious combination. The chemistry and tension between them was so heated and on point. Their connection was intense and raw. It felt so genuine and intimate. And the ending they got felt like it was utter perfection for these two.

Enjoyable Beauty and the Beast inspired tale

I really enjoyed the first book in this series so I was very excited to see a new book come out. It definitely exceeded expectations. Although a relatively short book, I still felt the characters were portrayed well and could understand why they felt and thought like they did. I'm a sucker for fairy tale retellings especially Beauty and the Beast and this one didn't disappoint.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Sol & Sienna

Sweet, fast-paced story between Sol and Sienna as two wounded hearts find their way together. Wounded by deep betrayal, Sienna fights insecurities she’s faced her entire life that make her question if she’s worth loving at all. Sol, carrying the trauma and crushing guilt of his past, believes himself to be completely unworthy of love. But when Sienna’s soul calls him, Sol can’t help but go searching for her. Together, they find themselves more similar than different, even if they’re from worlds apart.Favorite Quotes:“Love, real love, is quiet, yet so sure there’s no room for doubt.”“I will not give up. I will not surrender. I will do whatever I must to win her heart. That is how much she means to me.”“There is no battle I wouldn’t fight if it meant keeping you safe, not just your mind or body, but your heart and your honor.”

Wow I sat down and finished this within 2 hours. Such a captivating story that will leave you wanting more. It's a beautiful freakier adaption to beauty and the beast. The first chapter draws you in and you really sympathise with Sienna's life story and how James destroyed her but she really comes out stronger and finding love in the most impossible way. How I crave to be in love with the beast too. I would recommend reading this once or twice xx

A Quick but Compelling Read

Sienna immediately draws you in. She is clearly going through it, but what stands out is how relatable she feels throughout everything. She is not overpowered or unrealistic, just a woman trying to survive a really difficult situation.Astrid is such an important presence in the story. With how awful Sienna's family and sister are, she stands out as the only true friend Sienna has. The magic is woven in subtly, acting as a quiet layer underneath everything. The Creature ends up being one of the strongest parts of the book. I liked how complex he was, especially once his backstory started coming out. He is not just a monster, but something far more layered and tragic. That makes his relationship with Sienna more interesting, especially given how protective he is of her.I also enjoyed the book overall and found it to be a quick read.

Short and to the point, this super cute Beauty and the Beast vibe book was a fantastic read.
The growth that both main characters went through for their love was inspiring and their spicy scenes were well written.
Can't wait to read more in the series.

The Dawn and her Savior

This is the second of the Claimed By Beasts series and it was a powerful novel filled with heart and heat and packed quite the punch! There are themes of betrayal and drama through past events, but it is an addictive, instalove read that is emotional and riveting and it culminates in a hard-won, sweet and spicy HEA.Poor Sienna has been dragged through a tough life, being bullied by so called friends and family and when she finally thought she had connected with the love of her life, she feels the sting of betrayal by him and her younger sister and the family that discards her and discounts her feelings. She finally chooses to put herself first and takes off for New York and through heartbreak and the discovering magic of growing and learning, she meets her loyal savior.Sol the Gargoyle, a creature beset by doubt and anxiety, is millennia old and worn down by the vagaries of the human world. He doubts himself, his abilities and duty and yearns for the one bright dawn of his life; for his mate to choose him. When a bright illuminance colours his mind, he sets off to search for that one person who will find him enough and deserving of a better and brighter future together. From heartbreaking, soulful and teary moments and hurtful drama to loving values, I have thoroughly enjoyed the hours of respite this reading has gifted me.I thank the author for giving me the opportunity to enjoy the arc and provide my voluntary review.

This is a compact but great read.
I really like Sienna’s character. She doesn’t back down and makes a very brave decision when the people that should fight for her let her down. I like how she is willing to golive her dream.
The vicious beast, will do anything for Sienna, and she needs, and deserves, that commitment.
This book at its heart, a very well-written, sweet romantic ode.

Spicy, delicious gargoyle with a vibrating tail-what more do you need?

This is a quick easy read that absolutely packs it in (pun intended :)). Characters are well developed for a short book, and i immediately liked the FMC. Starting off with some absolute rage at the idiots in the FMC’s life, we then quickly pivot to her finding a satisfying new start in NYC. Soon she’s found by the creature, who quite literally sweeps her off her feet. This is a fast burn with an obsessive and protective MMC who would give her the world. And he has a prehensile vibrating tail. That alone should be enough for you to read this book. Thanks to the author for the early read.

3.5⭐️ Beauty and the Beast. And the Beast is a Gargoyle and he doesn't turn into a human. He's the Beast. He feels as a Beast should. He loves as a Beast should. He holds you against the wall, as a Beast should. A fun quick read for when you don't have much time, but want the hole story in one setting. It was ok. I didn't enjoy it as much as her other books. But that doesn't mean it was bad. Maybe it was the length. I needed more of the , "waited forever feel," that you don't get in Novellas.

Loved it

Want a quick read that will take you through a variety of emotions? This human/gargoyle love story might just brighten your day. Sol is a centuries old being who has been waiting for his mate to appear. Sienna is a human coming off of a terrible betrayal by her fiancé and little sister. Sienna has chosen herself amidst the family drama, gaslighting, etc and immediately sets out for a fresh start and I absolutely loved her character for this!Sol and Sienna are sweet together and though I’m jealous I am also really glad to see these characters get everything they want and deserve.

A Lovable Beast, short and spicy read!!

Poor Sienna! Her family is literally garbage, and then she finds out her fiancé is too. She meets Creature after almost dying. He should be the scariest thing she has ever encountered in her life but turns out to be the absolute best. I fell in love with Creature myself. He had so much humanity and depth. His love for Sienna and the care he took to make a home for her before he even found her was just stunning. Sienna was so easy to relate to as a person. How we all judge ourselves and that its hard to kick those thoughts and habits. It kinda makes me want more of them. Great job!

Beast? What Beast?

This is a short read; I call it a palette cleanser before moving on to something more hefty. This gargoyle is so in love with the woman he has waited a VERY long time for. This woman’s dream for a partner has come true. Of course, there’s more to the story, but I won’t ruin it for ya’ll. I strongly suggest you take an hour or so and read this feel-good paranormal romance by Melissa Cummins.

Aww this was so adorably sweet!

Poor Sienna, what a horrible family and boyfriend she had, but instead of falling apart completely she stood back up dusted herself off and kept going.

Her gargoyle was smitten before even meeting her, so glad she found acceptance and love from a monster who thought he was too broken to find his mate.

Quick fast-paced sweet monster romance.

Fantastic novella. An unorthodox love story beautifully written
